WORK PROJECTS

Marksmanship-Adaptive Tutoring in Virtual Reality

Cubic

This project looked at ways to improve simulated training for military groups. The project encompassed multiple aspects of military training, elements of which include communication, biometric responses, coordination, and marksmanship. I specifically worked on enhancing an existing simulator to include an adaptive tutoring component.

Unified Incident Command-Virtual Reality Training

E2i Creative Studios

As part of the team that worked on this project, I conducted a systematic literature review for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC). This project was funded by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and investigated appropriate virtual reality systems for use-of-force and coordinated incident command training.

Oil Rig Operations-Simulation Based Blended Learning

E2i Creative Studios

For the Simulation Based Blended Learning System I contributed to a large scale job analysis for Schlumberger Oil Rig Down Hole Tool Operators. We were able to secure additional contracts based on our performance during the job analysis phase. Follow on work included the development of a blended learning system. This system included a combination of online course modules and virtual reality head mounted display training for Schlumberger Oil Rig Down Hole Tool Operation. During my time on this project I was able to lead a beta test of the product in the Schlumberger Training center in Abu Dhabi! You can see some pictures from Ferrari World and Yas Marina Circuit with the whole training group on my "About Me" page.

Secretary of Defense-Decision Tool

E2i Creative Studios

During this project we worked toward developing a decision support system for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency looking at Secretary of Defense level crisis decision making in response to an unforeseen biological hazard. I contributed to the literature review, job analysis, and data collection.

Nuclear Power Plant Operations-Human Performance Testing

Prodigy

During this two-part project I co-lead (Study 1) and then lead (Study 2) the design and implementation of experimentation for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Human Performance Test Facility (HPTF), which houses a Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) simulator. In this experiment we investigated operator perceived workload, situational awareness, and physiological responses during a simulated operating procedure.

Nuclear Power Plant Operations-Situation Awareness, Workload, & Teamwork

Prodigy

During this project I contributed to the creation of Nuclear Regulator Commission (NRC) regulations and guidelines through various NUREGs, technical reports, and user guides. My colleagues and I also created a large scale catalog of Situation Awareness, Workload, and Teamwork (SAWLT) metrics used in the Nuclear Power Plant Application Processes, Additionally, we contributed to the creation of a large scale expert system designed to suggest recommendations for NRC reviewers in the Nuclear Power Plant Application Processes to assess appropriateness of the metrics used by Applicants.

Astronaut Experiences-Space, Science, & Spirituality

E2i Creative Studios/Prodigy

This project was an amazing opportunity to investigate experiences of awe, wonder, curiosity, and humility during outer space travel. Astronauts often account experiences of awe and wonder during time in space. Our team simulated this experience for participants and measured their physiological responses. Further, we completed a phenomenological interview with each participant following the simulated experience.
